Happy Labor Day to me! And Happy Birthday to my Nathan, of course! He is 3-dozen-years-old today. Holy-Moley.  How can I be old enough to have a 36-year-old??? Well, since I told everyone in the world I just turned 60, I guess I AM old enough! A child’s birthday seems to fill the mom’s day with memories. Water breaking. Going into labor. Pure joy at the first sight of our new love. Pure terror when left alone for the first time to bathe and dress this squirmy, wiggly, teeny-tiny baby. Angst over doing the right thing with him. Bliss once you realize you did ‘ok.’ Being my first born puts Nathan in a particularly interesting place in the family. I am a firm believer in The Birth Order theories and have read many articles and books on the subject. If there were a poster child for a first born, it would be Nathan. Born leader, steady-eddy, methodical decision maker, rule follower, Captain Justice to those who DON’T follow the rules, loyal, devoted, trustworthy, makes good on his word, and a man of integrity. It is a miracle he survived his parents’ well-meaning, over-the-top, uber-concentrated child rearing. But a bigger miracle is he is getting married June 25. Miracle in whom he has chosen, not that he’s getting married! He and Lindsey complement each other. You always hear that opposites attract and make a good blend as a couple. As it is with Danny and myself. That’s not the case with Nathan and Lindsey. They are very similar in their temperament and approach to life and that suits them very well, thank you very much. They are at ease with one another. So lovely to see. Again, Happy Birthday to my dearest Nathan.
